Smith Journal vol.13

Smith Journal vol.13

人気女性ライフスタイル誌「Frankie」の出版社が手がける男性向けライフスタイル・カルチャー誌。Frankieと同様に上質で落ち着いた雰囲気・細部にわたり品が漂う誌面で写真も満載。

「Smith Journal」

ABOUT This Magazine
Smith Journal is a quarterly, Australia-based publication that takes unexpected, interesting, funny and sometimes complicated stories and tells them the way you would to a bunch of friends at the pub.
The minds behind Smith wanted to create something they'd be happy to read themselves. That smart, creative people could peruse without shame, slap down on the coffee table, whack in their favourite old satchel or display proudly on the toilet reading rack.

A mag that looked really good, but had substance, wit and inspiration. Smith isn't obsessed with the latest stuff or being first in line. While it does keep an eye on what's current, it's much more intrigued by things that stand the test of time. Smith isn't about being nostalgic. Admittedly, it does love plenty of things from the past but knows that nostalgia can be toxic, so it's constantly looking toward the future too.

Smith isn't about creating a divide between makers and thinkers, because it understands that to build anything you need your hands as well as your mind. Smith isn't about being clever. It happily confesses to knowing nothing, but considers that a positive, because it means it's fascinated by everything.

About this issue VOLUME THIRTEEN

Volume 13 is crammed with more than its fair share of sharp minds. Top of the list would have to be Solomon Shereshevsky, who remembered every single thing he’d ever come across – a great skill to have when it came to party tricks, but enough to send him crackers.

And then there’s Delbert Trew who spends more time than you can imagine thinking about something very sharp indeed: barbed wire. You can’t go past Samuel Morse, either, who was a famous portrait painter before he gave his name to the code he invented. What a genius!

And we’re pretty taken with Noel Turner, who was smart enough to get around some pretty weird New Zealand laws to invent a car that, for a while, was a huge success.

Allan Cox might be the king of Australian putt putt golf, but we’ll also give him the prize for concentration and perseverance. He shot the highest number of hole-in-ones over a 24-hour period: an impressive 1516 before his legs gave out.

As well, you’ll find stories on a cross-dressing spy, a couple of Sydney nerds who revolutionised modern music, court illustration, big wheels, the dubious science of controlling the weather and a whole stack of other stuff.

We’ve packed so many ripping yarns and interesting facts in, you may as well think of it as your fascinating uncle in magazine form.
